榉 (jǔ) 1. Zelkova tree, a deciduous hardwood, similar to elm; the wood is water-resistant and suitable for shipbuilding. 2. Mountain毛榉, a deciduous hardwood that can grow over twenty meters tall; its wood is hard and can be used for railway sleepers and furniture. Also known as "water青冈". 榉 (jǔ) Zelkova tree (English: Schneider zelkova). A deciduous hardwood from the elm family (Zelkova schneideriana), with alternate leaves arranged in two rows, oval-shaped, with simple serrate margins; the flowers are unisexual and borne on the same tree; the fruit is small and spherical. The wood is solid, making it a premium material for furniture, as well as for construction and shipbuilding. It is distributed in China, Japan, and Korea. 引 1. From "Compendium of Materia Medica": The Zelkova tree is found everywhere in the mountains, with bark similar to that of sandalwood and leaves like those of oak.
