欒 (luán) 1. A type of tree, also known as 欒華 (goldenrain tree) or 燈籠樹 (lantern tree). It belongs to the Sapindaceae family. It is a deciduous tree with feather-like compound leaves, where the leaflets are oval-shaped. The flowers are pale yellow, arranged in a panicle, and it bears a dehiscent fruit that is elongated and oval-shaped. The seeds are round and black, and the leaves contain tannins, which can be used to produce tannin or for medicinal purposes. 2. An arch, a curved load-bearing structure between vertical columns and horizontal beams in architecture. 3. A variant of "孿" (twin), referring to twins. 4. A surname. 5. An ancient place name. In the Spring and Autumn period, it belonged to the Jin state. Its ruins are located in the northwest of Zhao County, Hebei Province. 6. In classical texts, two corners of an ancient bell mouth. 7. It refers to bells used in ancient emperor's vehicles, synonymous with "鑾". It can also indicate the emperor's vehicle. 8. A surname, found in classical genealogy texts, associated with the Ji clan.
