[En.] kill 【造字法】: The character is a phono-semantic compound, consisting of the radical for dog (犬) and the phonetic component (尔). Examples: 1. From "Zhou Li": On the day of hunting (狝之日), it is advised to make prophecies for the next year’s fate. 2. From Zhang Heng’s "Xi Jing Fu": Before the sun has even moved its shadow, a large number has already been hunted down (已狝其什七八).
