The capital was later moved to Pengcheng (now Xuzhou) during the early Warring States period. In 1126, during the reign of Emperor Qinzong, Jin troops invaded Kaifeng, leading to the fall of the Northern Song. The following year, Zhao Gou (Emperor Gaozong of Song) declared himself emperor in Nanjing (now Shangqiu, Henan) and established his capital in Lin'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang), known as the Southern Song.
