莨 [làng] 1. (Refers to 莨菪) A perennial herbaceous plant with tuberous rhizomes; the leaves are alternate and oblong. The seeds, rhizomes, and leaves can all be used for medicinal purposes. 莨 [liáng] 1. (Refers to 薯莨) A perennial herbaceous twining plant of the Dioscoreaceae family. It has tubers underground that contain a gelatinous substance and can be used as a dye for cotton and linen fabrics, such as “莨绸” (also referred to as "香云纱" or "拷纱"). 莨 [láng] 1. (Name) Chinese penni-setum. A type of perennial herbaceous plant. In autumn and winter, the tips of the stems produce purple-black, bristly, cone-shaped flower clusters resembling wolf tails. The young shoots can be used as fodder. 引 1. From "说文": 莨, referring to a type of grass. It composes from grass and "良声" (good sound). 2. From "史记·司马相如传": If the land is low and damp, it produces 藏莨 (藏 refers to a type of hidden or buried). 例 For example: 莨尾 (the name of a plant, which is the same as dog tail grass); 莨莠 (莨 and 莠 refer to two types of weeds. They are often used to metaphorically indicate evil people or places overgrown with weeds).
