跌 [diē] Verb: 1. To fall; to tumble. Example: 失足摔倒 (to lose balance and fall); 跌了一跤 (fell down). 2. To drop; to decrease. Example: 股市下跌 (the stock market dropped); 最近市场上的物价跌了不少 (recently, prices in the market have dropped significantly). 3. A slip; a mistake. Example: 此夫过举,蹞步而觉,跌千里者夫 (this is a mistake; to stroll and then feel it, he who falls a thousand miles). 4. To stamp; to stomp. Example: (王)允仰面跌足,半晌不语 (he looked up and stomped his feet, not speaking for a while). Adjective: 1. Describes a rhythm in writing or speech with ups and downs.
