㰍
1. Window frame; window. It later became "櫳".
“㰍, a space in a house.” – Shuowen Jiezi, Wood Section. Duan Yucai noted: "疏 should be read as 通. 通 means to connect; hence, 㰍 refers to windows and doors that provide openness. The window of the house is called 㰍, which means it is carved to be exquisite.” – Yupan, Wood Section. “集 refers to the opening in a house, also written as 欖.”
2. Same as "櫳". A cage for raising birds and animals.
“㰍, a cage.” – Guangya, Explanation of Palace. Wang Niansun's commentary states: “㰍 refers to a cage. The character originally was written as 櫳. Shuowen: ‘櫳, a fence.’ It is quoted from Zhugeng Yinyi, Volume 1, which cites San Cang: ‘櫳, used for containing birds and beasts, a cage or enclosure.’”
