1. Same as "伊".
2. Pictophonetic character. Consists of "人" (person) and "尹" (to govern). Together, it refers to Yi Yin, who governed the world during the Shang dynasty. Later borrowed to mean "that".
3. Indicates a distant reference, equivalent to "that", as in "the one" (伊人) is on the other side of the water. — From "The Book of Songs, Qin Feng, Jian Jiao". Note: "伊" should be read as "繄", which means "the same".
