磊 [lěi] (adjective) 1. Heart is bright and open, as in “光明磊落” (honest and upright), “磊落的胸怀” (open-minded heart). 2. A lot of stones. 【本义】: Stone is abundant. 【造字法】: Pictophonetic; composed of three stones. The number "three" is not precise, indicating many. 【引】 1. In "Shuowen Jiezi" (说文解字): 磊 means many stones. The character can also be written as 礧. 2. In Sima Xiangru's "Shanglin Fu" (上林赋): "water and jade (lots of) stones." Note: “魁礨貌” refers to a rough appearance. 3. In "Chuci" (楚辞): "stones are abundant and vines are sprawling." 4. In Wang Yi's "Lu Lingguang Dian Fu" (鲁灵光殿赋): "stones supporting each other." 【例】 Examples: 磊砢 (many piled stones); 磊块 (accumulation of many stones); 磊磊 (the appearance of many mountain stones).
