In oracle bone script, one end resembles the end of a bundle of silk, the other end resembles the head of a silk thread, and the middle indicates twisted silk. The original meaning is fine silk. (本义: 细丝) Additional Note: In ancient texts, "糸" was used interchangeably with "丝" (silk). 古同“丝”。
