蓼 [liǎo] 1. A one-year-old herbaceous plant, its leaves are lanceolate, flowers small, white or pale red, and its fruit is oval and flat. It grows near or in water. The stems and leaves have a spicy taste and can be used as a seasoning. The whole plant is used in medicine. Also known as "water knotweed." 2. A general term for plants in the genus of knot-weed. 3. Name of an ancient state during the Spring and Autumn period. 4. Located in the southwestern part of present-day Tanghe County, Henan Province. 5. Northeast of today's Gushi County, Henan Province, there is a place called Liaocheng Gang, which is the land of the ancient Liao state. 6. The name of an ancient county established during the Southern Dynasties (Liang Dynasty). It is located in present-day Gushi County, Henan Province. 7. A surname. 蓼 [lù] 1. Describing a plant as tall. 2.
