蝦 (xiā)
1. A type of crustacean with a shell and numerous segments in its abdomen. They live in water and come in many different species.
2. A crustacean, belonging to the class Malacostraca. It has a long tail and is divided into three parts: head, thorax, and abdomen. The head has two pairs of antennae (long and short); the thorax has five pairs of walking legs; the abdomen is long and segmented, with each segment having a pair of swimmerets used for swimming. They inhabit aquatic environments and there are many edible varieties. Commonly referred to as "虾子" (xiā zi).
