魬 (bǎn)
1. 比目鱼 (flatfish; a type of fish also known as "halibut" or "flounder").
- An animal name referring to a type of bottom-dwelling fish. It has a flattened and broad body, with both eyes positioned on the same side of the body, and it usually lies horizontally on the seafloor.
- Reference: Ming Dynasty scholar Zhang Zilie’s "Zhengzitong: Fish Section": "魬, flatfish, also known as '版鱼' (bǎn yú), commonly misnamed as 魬." It is also referred to as "比目鱼" (bǐ mù yú).
