Derived from 'bird', the 'xue' is a省声 (phonetic abbreviation). 3. From "Huainanzi · Fanpao": "Xue, like the crested crane, knows of coming but not of going." Note: "When a person is to have events of joy or sorrow, it sings, this signifies knowing it is coming; knowing the year has many winds, it lowers its nest on branches. People investigate the eggs, thus it is said not to know going." Also known as the dry magpie. 4. From Liáng Dynasty, Xiāo Tǒng's "Jǐndài Shū Twelve Months Qǐ": "Though the magpie and the roc are different, the wind and moon are the same."
