麺 (miàn)
1. Same as "麵".
同“麵”。
2. Face; the front part of the head. In "Mozi - Non-Agression," it states: “A gentleman does not look in water for his mirror but looks at people. Looking in water reflects the face; looking at people reveals fortune and misfortune.”
臉;頭的前部。《墨子‧非攻中》:“君子不鏡于水而鏡于人。鏡于水,見面之容;鏡于人,則知吉與凶。”
3. Mask; false face.
面具;假面。
4. Front; in front of. In "Shangshu - Gu Ming," it says: “The large carriage is at the guest step’s front; the decorated carriage is at the steps’ front.”
前;面前。《尚書‧顧命》:“大輅,在賓階面,綴輅,在阼階面。”
5. In geometry, it refers to the trajectory formed by the movement of a line, having length and width but no thickness. In "Mozi - Major Acquisition," it states: “A square’s one face is not a square.”
几何学上指一条线移动所形成的轨迹,有长,有宽,没有厚。《墨子‧大取》:“方之一面,非方也。”
6. The surface of an object or a layer on the upper part of certain objects. In "Mozi - Preparing City Gates," it states: “The guest is resting on the side and flies are landing on it.” Sun Yirang interprets this as: “面 refers to the four sides of the city.”
物體的表面或某些物体上部的一层。《墨子‧備城門》:“客馮面而蛾傅之。”孫詒讓間詁:“面,謂城四面。”
7. The outer layer exposed of an object or the front side of textiles (opposed to "背" and "里").
物体露在外面的一层或纺织品的正面(和“背”“里”相對)。
8. Aspect; part. In "Records of the Grand Historian - Liu Bang's Family," it says: “Of the generals under Emperor Han, only Han Xin can be entrusted with major tasks, for he is on one side.”
方面;部位。《史記‧留侯世家》:“而漢王之將,獨韓信可屬大事,當一面。”
9. An ancient legal term in the state of Qin. Referring to the ceremonial personnel accompanying a Qin envoy from another state. The bamboo slips from the Shihu Cave (Qin tomb) in "Answers to Legal Questions" state: “What is '篋面'? '篋面' refers to the ceremonial personnel accompanying a Qin envoy, being those who endure their duties, those who carry banners with the ambassadors; the guest personnel are called '篋', and those who carry the banners are called '面'.”
古代秦國法律術語。指陪同秦使的他國儀仗人員。睡虎地秦墓竹簡《法津答問》:“可(何)謂‘篋面’?‘篋面’者,耤(藉)秦人使,它邦耐吏、行旞與偕者,命客吏曰‘篋’,行旞曰‘面’。”
10. Grain ground into flour, specifically flour made from wheat. In "Tang Dynasty - Zhang Yue's Poem on Snow," it states: “Piling up like sand under the moon, scattering like flour in the wind.”
粮食磨成的粉,特指小麦磨成的粉。唐·張說《奉和喜雪應制》:“積如沙照月,散似麵從風。”
