窗 (chuāng)

引 (Yǐn)
1. 《说文》:囱,在墙曰牅,在屋曰囱。窗,或从穴。
From "Shuōwén": "囱" means on the wall it's called "牅", in a house it's called "囱". "窗" may originate from "穴".
2. 《考工记·匠人》:四旁两夹窗。 注:“窗助户为明。”
From "Kāogōngjì - Jiàngrén": "Four sides have two windows." Note: "Windows help let in light."
3. 王逸《鲁灵光殿赋》:天窗绮疎。
From Wang Yi's "Lǔ Língguāngdiàn fù": "The skylight is beautiful and sparse."
4. 《论衡·别通》:凿窗启牖,以助户明也。
From "Lùnhéng - Biétōng": "Drill windows and open shutters to help let in light."
5. 归有光《项脊轩志》:前辟四窗,垣墙周庭。
From Gui Youguang's "Xiàng Jǐ Xuānzhì": "Open four windows in the front, surrounded by walls and courts."
6. 北朝乐府《木兰诗》:当窗理云鬓,对镜帖花黄。
From the Northern Dynasties' music collection "Mùlán Shī": "At the window, arranging my cloud-like hair, facing the mirror with flower-yellow pomade."
7. 明· 魏学洢《核舟记》:旁开小窗,左右各四,共八扇。
From Ming dynasty author Wei Xueyi's "Hézhōu Jì": "Open small windows on each side, four on the left and four on the right, making eight in total."
