A blue-white polyvalent metallic element, atomic number 24. The chromium produced is typically hard and brittle, resistant to corrosion, and exists only in compound form. It mainly occurs in the form of chromite, and can be extracted from ore using the aluminothermic method, the ferrosilicon method, or electrolysis.
