㧺
1. 指套。古时缝纫,用皮革作箍套在指上以防针刺。
Finger cots. In ancient sewing, it referred to a leather cover worn on the finger to prevent needle pricks.
《説文•手部》:“㧺,縫指㧺也。”段玉裁注:“縫指㧺者,謂以鍼紩衣之人恐鍼之栔其指,用韋為箍,韜於指以藉之也。”
"In the Shuowen: '㧺 refers to the finger cot used in sewing.' Duan Yucai commented: 'Finger cots are used by seamstresses who fear pricking their fingers with needles, so they use leather to make a cover to protect them.'"
《四分律》卷五十二:“針縫衣患指痛,佛言聽作㧺。彼以寶作㧺,佛言不應爾。”
"In the Four-Part Vinaya, Volume 52: 'When sewing with needles causes pain in the fingers, Buddha advised to use finger cots. They made them from precious materials, and Buddha said that was inappropriate.'"
2. 套子;护套。
Cover; protective sleeve.
