姜 [jiāng] 1. A perennial herbaceous plant with yellow underground rhizomes, spicy in flavor, used for seasoning and also for medicinal purposes: fresh ginger (生姜); ginger soup (姜汤). 2. A surname. 姜 [jiāng] 1. A perennial herbaceous plant (Zingiber officinale) cultivated as an annual. It has undeveloped fibrous roots and a fleshy rhizome that is irregularly shaped, grayish-white or yellow, with a spicy taste, used as a vegetable, condiment, and also for medicinal purposes. 姜 [jiāng] 1. (In terms of the river) a name for water, as in Jiang River (姜水). - Example: "The water named Jiang flows through Jiang's City."
