徧:
1. Same as "遍" (biàn) – meaning to cover or to spread everywhere.
2. (Phonetic-meaning structure. Original meaning: to walk through all.) 徧 also refers to the character "帀" (zā). – "Shuōwén Jiězì" (说文) mentions "徧于群神" (spread among the myriad gods). – "Yú Shū" (虞书) states "for all Yangjia mountains and rivers, to travel is nearly complete." – From Song Dynasty, Shen Kua's "Mèngxī Bǐtán" (梦溪笔谈) discusses not being able to deliver throughout the office. – Reference from "Chénzhōu Tiāo Mǐ" (陈州粜米).
3. Broadly refers to universality. "Shìrén jiāo biàn cuī wǒ." (室人交徧摧我) – "Book of Songs, Bei Feng, North Gate" indicates it. "Gōngzǐ yǐn Hóu Shēng zuò shàng zuò, biàn zàn bīn kè." (公子引侯生坐上坐,遍赞宾客) – "Records of the Grand Historian, Biographies of Weigongzi" illustrates praising guests universally.
