Long, nearly three meters, originally had fifty strings, later reduced to twenty-five or sixteen, played horizontally.) 2. 古水名。即今河南省罗山县的小黄河。 (An ancient river name, referring to the current Xiao Huanghe River in Luoshan County, Henan Province.) 3. (象)沙沙作响,沙沙的声音。 (Rustle: a sound like rustling leaves.) 4. (引) 1. 《说文》:瑟,庖牺所作弦乐也。 (Explanation from Shuowen: The se is a stringed instrument made by Pao Xi.) 2. 《礼记·明堂位》:大瑟小瑟。 (In the Book of Rites, Ming Tang Wei: The great se and the small se.) 3. 《尔雅》:大瑟谓之灑。 注:“二十七弦。世本,疱牺作五十弦。黄帝使素女鼓瑟。哀不自胜,乃破为二十五弦。” (From Erya: The large se is called "si".
