Western Guo (originally in the eastern part of present-day Baoji County, Shaanxi province, later moved to the southeast of present-day Shan County, Henan province). 2. Surname. 虢 [guó] Noun 1. Original meaning: The mark left by the claw of a tiger. 2. Formed by the phono-semantic method: composed of the character for "tiger" and the phonetic component "lǚ". 1. Same as primary meaning (clawed print). 2. Name of a state during the Zhou dynasty, consisting of Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern Guo. 3. Eastern Guo: The territory granted to Guo Shu, a brother of King Wen of Zhou, located in present-day Xingyang, Henan province. Destroyed by Zheng in 767 BC. 4. Western Guo: The territory granted to Guo Zhong, another brother of King Wen of Zhou, located east of present-day Baoji County, Shaanxi province. Destroyed by Qin in 665 BC. 5. Southern Guo: The territory moved to Shangyang after King Ping of Zhou relocated eastward; it was called Southern Guo and was destroyed by Jin during the Spring and Autumn period. 6.
