隱 (yǐn) 1. Same as "隐". 2. Verb: To depend on; to lean against. Example from the Book of Rites: "After burial and sealing, the wide wheel covers the pit; its height can be hidden." Han dynasty scholar Zheng Xuan notes: "Hidden means to depend." 3. To conceal. Common phrases: - 藏匿 (cáng nì): to hide. - 遮瞒 (zhē mán): to conceal. - 潜藏 (qián cáng): to be hidden, not visible; opposite of 显 (xiǎn). - 秘密 (mì mì): secret matters unknown to others. 4. To conceal. Common phrases: - 退隐 (tuì yǐn): to retreat from the world. - 若隐若现 (ruò yǐn ruò xiàn): appearing and disappearing. - 直言不隐 (zhí yán bù yǐn): to speak frankly without concealment. - 隐情 (yǐn qíng): hidden circumstances. - 隐疾 (yǐn zhì): concealed illness. - 隐性 (yǐn xìng): recessive (genetics). - 难言之隐 (nán yán zhī yǐn): an unutterable secret. 5.
