鴇:
1. A type of bird. It has a small head, a long neck, and is slightly larger than a goose. Its back features yellow-brown and black patterns, and it is good at running but not flying. The most common species is the great bustard, also known as "地鵏" (dì jiān). It often inhabits grassland areas, summering in the northeastern part of Inner Mongolia and the western parts of the Three Eastern Provinces, and migrating to North China in winter.
Example: In the poem "唐風•鴇羽", it says: "肃肃鴇羽, 集于苞栩." (The solemn bird feathers gather on the boughs.)
2. In ancient times, it referred to an experienced old prostitute or a false mother of a prostitute running a brothel.
Example: In "丹丘先生曲論," it states: "Old prostitutes are called 鴇."
3. A horse with mixed black and white fur, also written as "鴇".
