鼵 1. In ancient texts, it refers to a type of mouse that shares burrows with the bird known as 鵌 (ān) and is similar to a house mouse but smaller, with a yellow color and a short, bushy tail. It is also called "兀鼠" (wù shǔ). 1. A type of mouse that enjoys sharing burrows with birds. In "Erya: Explanation of Birds": "The bird and the mouse share the same burrow; the bird is the 鵌 and the mouse is the 鼵." According to Guo Pu's commentary from Jin Dynasty: "The 鼵 resembles a house mouse but has a short tail, while the 鵌 is small and similar to a dove, having a yellow-black color. The burrow goes 3 to 4 feet underground, with the mouse inside and the bird outside."
