湮 [yān] 1. To bury; to be neglected, to fall into oblivion. - Example: 湮没. - To be buried and forgotten (埋没不显著); to be lost or scattered (湮佚); to sink into oblivion (湮沉; 湮泯; 湮昧; 湮埋). 2. To clog up; to fill; to block. - Example: 湮塞 (to block). 3. To submerge. - Example: 湮枯 (to be buried and dried up); 湮坠 (to disappear and be lost); 湮废 (to be buried and discarded); 湮隳 (to be buried and destroyed). 4. To spread liquid onto objects; later written as "洇 [yīn]". - Example: On silk, writing with ginger juice and powder, it does not spread (不湮开). 名词: 1. Name of a river (Yan River), a tributary of the Yi River, located west of Dengfeng County, Henan Province. 2. A surname. 3. Also see "洇 [yīn]". 湮 is a verb meaning to be neglected or to be buried.
