狸 (lí) 〈名〉 1. Also refers to "貉" (raccoon dog). 2. A type of mammal that resembles a cat, with fur that can be used for clothing. Also known as "狸子" (lízǐ), "狸猫" (likāo), "山猫" (shānmāo), "豹猫" (bàomāo). 3. A synonym for the yellow weasel. Definitions: 1. Same as the basic meaning (leopard cat). 2. Also known as "钱猫" (qiánmāo), "山猫" (shānmāo), "豹猫" (bàomāo), "狸猫" (likāo), "野猫" (yěmāo). It is as large as a cat, has a round head and a big tail, with a light brown body covered in many brown spots. There are four brown longitudinal stripes from the head to the shoulders, and a white stripe at the inner corners of each eye. It feeds on birds, mice, etc., and often steals poultry. Its fur can be made into clothing. 3. The yellow weasel's alternate name. Examples: - For instance: 狸狌 (wild cat); 狸制 (clothing made from leopard cat fur); 狸力 (name of a mythical beast).
