蓟 薊 jì 〈名〉 【本义】: 蓟属植物的泛称 【造字法】: 形声。从艸,魝 jiè声。 1. 同本义 ([En.] thistle). A perennial upright herb. There are two types: "大蓟" (large thistle) and "小蓟" (small thistle). The stems and leaves have thorns and white soft hairs, and it blooms purple-red flowers in early summer. The whole plant is used for medicinal purposes. The young stems and leaves can be eaten or used as fodder. 例: 如: 罗平蓟; 贡山蓟 (Example: e.g. Luoping thistle; Gongshan thistle) 2. 古州名 ([En.] Ji prefecture). Established during the 18th year of the Kaiyuan reign of the Tang dynasty. The administrative center was at Yuyang (present-day Jixian County, Tianjin). 3. 古县名 ([En.] Ji county). 4. 蓟县. Established during the Qin dynasty. The administrative center is located southwest of present-day Beijing. 5. 县名. Located in the northern part of Tianjin, adjacent to Beijing and Hebei province. It was initially named Wuzhong County during the Qin dynasty, changed to Yuyang during the Sui dynasty, and incorporated into Jizhou during the Ming dynasty. In 1913, it was renamed Jixian.
