龈 1. (noun) The gum tissue that envelops the necks of teeth, pink in color, containing blood vessels and nerves. Also known as "牙龈" (yá yín) or "牙床" (yá chuáng); in some regions, it is referred to as "牙花子" (yá huā zǐ). 2. (齦) 齦 yín 1. (noun) The fleshy tissue at the base of the teeth, known as "gum of teeth" ([En.] gum of teeth). This tissue surrounds the neck of the tooth and covers the upper and lower alveolar ridges; generally refers to the alveolar bone and surrounding soft tissues. 引:1 《太玄·密》:琢齿依龈,三岁无君。 例:又如: 龈龈 (a manner of disputing; an expression of laughter); 龈齶 (the gums and the palate; metaphorically refers to the foundation of things). 3. (same as 啃) (verb) To bite using teeth. In "说文解字.齿部": 龈, 啮也 (Gum, to nibble). In "通俗编.草木": 龈瓜皮,说大话 (Gnawing the skin of a melon, and talking big). (verb) To bite using teeth.
