漬
1. Soak or immerse.
Example: "pickling" (醃漬), "immersion" (浸漬). In the "Records of the Three Kingdoms," it states: “He (Hua Tuo) ordered the warm water to be close to hot, and soaked his hands in it, which could eventually lead to sleep.”
2. To stain or taint.
Example: Song Dynasty poet Lu You wrote in "Drunken Song": “A hundred riders hunt on the river beach in autumn, and to this day the blood stains the short sable fur.”
3. Livestock dying from infectious diseases.
Example: In "The Book of Rites," it states: “When the Son of Heaven dies, it is called 'collapse'... for birds, it is called 'falling', and for four-legged animals, it is called 'zì' (漬).”
4. Residues or marks left on an object.
Example: "oil stains" (油漬), "ink stains" (墨漬), "dirt stains" (汙漬).
