1. A circular percussion instrument made of copper, consisting of two round bronze plates that are convex in the center, with holes in the middle allowing for a ribbon to be threaded through for holding; struck together to produce sound.
2. (noun) A type of musical instrument. A percussion instrument made of copper, approximately thirty to thirty-five centimeters in diameter, with flat edges and a raised center. When the two discs are struck together, they produce a rich sound. Commonly used in opera, yangge, and folk bands. Also known as "copper cymbals."
