To use as a pretext; to pretend. 借口、借端、借故、借代、借景、借喻、借题发挥。 (e.g., pretext, excuse, sake, substitute, context, analogy, prompt.) 4. To rely on; to depend on. 凭借、借势。 (e.g., rely on, depend on.) 本义: Borrowing, borrowing in, borrowing out. 造字法: Pictophonetic; composed of "person" (人) and the sound "xi" (昔). Synonyms: 1. Borrow ([En.] borrow) 2. Lend ([En.] lend) 3. Help ([En.] help) 引: 1. 《说文》: Borrow means to pretend. Zhu Junsheng says: it is a transfer of the character for "藉." In the ancient times, it was only written as "藉." 2. 《广韵》: Borrow means to use as a substitute. 3. 《晋书·阮裕传》: There is nothing that cannot be borrowed. 4.宋· 王安石《伤仲永》: Borrow a nearby person to assist. 5. 清· 袁枚《黄生借书说》: The permit for borrowing books is granted. 6. Books cannot be read without borrowing. 7. The intention of the borrower. 8.
