In the "Dialects" Volume Six: “Half deafness, in the region between Liang and Yi is called 䏁; in the regions of Qin and Jin, to hear without understanding, to hear but not perceive is called 䏁.” In "Scholarly Assessment of Characters - Ear Section": “䏁, in the state of Yi and Liang refers to being deaf as 䏁. In Qin and Jin, to hear but not perceive, to hear but not understand is called 䏁.” Xu Kai's commentary states: “䏁 means not completely deaf.”
