Definition of 「擲」: 1. See "掷". 2. (Verb) 1. To throw, to cast, to toss. For example: "投掷" (to throw), "掷铁饼" (to throw a discus). From "The Book of Jin", Volume 56, Biography of Sun Chu: "When you attempt a throw on the ground, it should make a sound like metal or stone." 2. To discard, to abandon. For example: "弃掷" (to discard). From Tao Yuanming's “Miscellaneous Poems,” second poem: "The sun and moon are cast away from people, those with ambition cannot fulfill their desires." 3. To leap, to jump. From Zhou He’s poem "Late Title at the River Pavilion": "In the clear waves under the moon, fish leap, as evening paths hear the sounds of dogs."
