翡 [fěi] 〈名〉 1. 赤羽雀 (red-feather finch) - 1) A type of bird with blue and green feathers, living by the water; its feathers can be used for decoration. - 2) A mineral that is green, blue-green, or white with green mottling, translucent, and glossy; it can be used as a decoration, also known as "jadeite". 2. In ancient texts, refers to a bird with red feathers. 【引】 1. 《说文》:翡,赤羽雀也。出郁林,从羽,非声。雄赤曰翡,雌青曰翠。 (From "Shuowen": The definition of 翡 is "red-feather finch". It comes from the dense forest and is made up of feathers, with no sound. The male is called 翡 (fěi) in red, and the female is called 翠 (cuì) in blue.) 2. 《南方异物志》:翡大于燕,小于乌,腰身通黑,惟胸、前背、翼后有赤毛也;翠通身青黄,惟六翮上毛长寸余,其飞,即羽鸣翠翠翡翡,因以名焉。 (From "Records of Uncommon Southern Creatures": 翡 is larger than a swallow and smaller than a crow, with a black body; only the chest, back, and wings have red feathers; 翠 is entirely blue-yellow, and its six feathers on top are over an inch long.
