饕 [tāo] 1. 〔饕餮〕 ① A legendary fierce and gluttonous beast, often represented by its head shape as decoration on ancient bronze vessels; ② Metaphorically refers to a vicious and greedy person; ③ Metaphorically refers to a gluttonous person. 2. Greedy for wealth and food. 引 1. 《说文》: 饕 means greed. 2. Greed for wealth is called 饕; greed for food is called 餮. —《左传·文公十八年》annotation 3. 《韩非子·亡征》: Those who are gluttonous and insatiable, who pursue immediate benefits and seek to gain, may be at risk of demise. 例 Examples: 饕残 (greedy and cruel); 饕淫 (greedy and debauched); 饕沓 (insatiably greedy); 饕湎 (indulgent in alcohol); 饕餮王孙 (noble descendants who are gluttonous and hedonistic); 饕餮放横 (greedy and vicious, acting without restraint); 饕戾 (greed and tyranny).
