狮 (shī)
1. A mammal, with male having a long mane on its neck, primarily found in Africa and the northwestern region of India (commonly referred to as "lion"; also historically written as “师子”).
2. A large carnivorous species of cat primarily nocturnal, mostly found in open or rocky regions of Africa and parts of southern Asia, with a yellow-brown body, a bushy-tailed tuft, and a male with rough mane that is black or dark brown.
3. The two offspring of a dog are called "狮" (the dog gives birth to two children).

- 狮儿 (a metaphor for a remarkable person who dominates his era);
- 狮子口 (mouth of the lion, referring to prison gates);
- 狮子座 (Lion constellation);
