To assist, to aid: 辅佐 (to assist). Examples: 陪臣 (assisting minister), 陪审 (to assist in examination). 3. Additional, non-primary: 增加的 (additional). Examples: 陪衬 (auxiliary lining), 陪都 (secondary capital). 4. Same as "赔", to compensate: 赔偿 (to repay). 5. Ancient form is the same as "赔", meaning to repay. 6. To increase: 增加 (to increase). 7. To assist or help: 帮助 (to assist). 8. To violate, as in "倍": 违背 (to violate). 9. The original meaning refers to a mound or a heap of soil. 10.
