【造字法】: 会意。甲骨文字形,从草(木),草木春时生长;中间是“屯”字,似草木破土而出,土上臃肿部分,即刚破土的胚芽形,表示春季万木生长;“屯”亦兼作声符。小篆字形,隶变以后,除“日”之外,其他部分都看不出来了。
Character formation: Pictophonetic. The oracle bone script form depicts grass (wood) growing in spring; the character "屯" appears in the middle, resembling plants breaking through the earth, a swollen part representing the newly sprouted bud, indicating the growth of plants in spring; "屯" also functions as a phonetic component. In the small seal script, except for the "sun" part, the rest is not recognizable.
同本义 ([En.] spring)
1. 《说文》:春,推也。从艸屯,从日,艸春时生也。会意,屯亦声…今隶作春字,亦作芚。
"Shuo Wen": Spring, to push. It is composed of grass and the character "屯", suggesting that grass flourishes in spring. Pictographic, with "屯" also serving as a phonetic element... It is now written as 春, also as 芚.
2. 《尔雅·释天》:春为青阳,春为发生,春秋繁露。春者,天之和也。又春,喜气也,故生。
"Er Ya": Spring is the green yang, spring is the flourishing, spring and autumn have abundant dew. Spring is the harmony of heaven. Additionally, spring represents good fortune, hence life arises.
3. 《公羊传·隐公元年》:春者何,岁之始也。
"Gong Yang Zhuang": What is spring? It is the beginning of the year.
4. 《诗·豳风·七月》:为此春酒。
"Shi": This is spring wine.
5. 孟浩然《春晓》:春眠不觉晓,处处闻啼鸟。
Meng Haoran: In the spring sleep, I unknowingly greet dawn, everywhere I hear the calls of birds.
6. 王维《相思》:红豆生南国,春来发几枝?
Wang Wei: Red beans grow in the southern country, in spring how many twigs bloom?
泛指一年 ([En.] year)
1. 高适《人日寄杜二拾遗》:一卧东山三十春。
Gao Shi: A single sleep on Dongshan, thirty springs have passed.
春色;喜色 ([En.] spring scenery; joyful expression).
