头 tóu
1. The uppermost part of a human body or the foremost part of an animal's body: 头骨 (skull), 头脑 (brain), 头脸 (face; refers to appearance or dignity), 头角 (the youth's spirit or talent).
2. Refers to hair or hairstyle: 留头 (to let hair grow), 剃头 (to shave one's head).
3. The top end of an object: 山头 (mountain top), 笔头 (pen tip), 两头尖 (both ends sharp).
4. Refers to the starting point or beginning of a matter: 从头儿说起 (start from the beginning), 头绪 (clue).
5. The remaining part of an object: 布头儿 (scraps of cloth).
6. Previously; in earlier times: 头三天 (the first three days).
7. Sequence in front, first: 头等 (first class), 头生 (firstborn).
8. Leader: 头子 (head person), 头目 (chief).
9. Aspect: 他们是一头的 (they are of one aspect).
10. Near, approaching: 头睡觉先洗脸 (wash your face before going to sleep).
11. A measure word often referring to livestock: 一头牛 (one cow).
