Refers to hair or hairstyle: 留头 (to let hair grow), 剃头 (to shave one's head). 3. The top end of an object: 山头 (mountain top), 笔头 (pen tip), 两头尖 (both ends sharp). 4. Refers to the starting point or beginning of a matter: 从头儿说起 (start from the beginning), 头绪 (clue). 5. The remaining part of an object: 布头儿 (scraps of cloth). 6. Previously; in earlier times: 头三天 (the first three days). 7. Sequence in front, first: 头等 (first class), 头生 (firstborn). 8. Leader: 头子 (head person), 头目 (chief). 9.
