咽 [yān] 1. The tube at the back of the oral cavity, composed of muscle and mucous membrane, is divided into three parts: the upper section, symmetrical to the nasal cavity, called "nasopharynx"; the middle section, symmetrical to the oral cavity, called "oropharynx"; and the lower section, located at the back of the throat, called "laryngopharynx". The pharynx serves as a common pathway for the respiratory and digestive tracts (also known as "throat"). 2. Also refers to the neck. 3. Metaphorically refers to a strategically important place. 4. Same as the original meaning (pharynx) - the channel for digestion and respiration located behind the nasal cavity and oral cavity and above the larynx, divided into nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx, commonly referred to as the throat. 引: 1.
