(2) An ancient official responsible for recording historical events: 太史, 内史. (3) An ancient official title: 刺史, 御史. (4) A surname. (5) Ancient official title, with varied responsibilities ([En.] histographer; official historian). (6) In the Shang Dynasty, a military officer stationed abroad. Referenced in divination texts: "At North Shi, they capture the Qiang." (7) The historiographer, serving alongside the king, responsible for rituals, astrology, divination, and record-keeping.
